Lavender Orpington Hatching Eggs
Shipping on Hatching Eggs
We ship hatching eggs Monday through Wednesday, depending on when the hens lay and the weather. We strive to ship within 24 hours of the egg being laid. Eggs that are older than 48 hours go in the incubator, to the farmers market or the food bank. We don’t have the ability to store and keep eggs.
Hatching Eggs are shipped via UPS unless directed otherwise. The option is available for expedited at an additional charge. UPS does not have x-ray equipment so there is no possibility your eggs will be exposed during transit.
It is highly advised that west coast customers take the optional upgrade to UPS 2-Day Shipping, especially during the high heat summer months.
They have arrived!
Once your eggs arrive let them “rest” inside in a carton with the pointy end down largest end up. Do not put cold eggs into an incubator they will crack.Eggs ship from Alabama, where it is extremely humid, eggs are collected throughout the day and transfered to a climate controlled room (with 40% relative humidity) where they are either packed and shipped or set to hatch. Even with this limited time before leaving it is possible your eggs will have a smaller air cell than eggs produced in more arid climates. You should adjust your incubating settings accordingly for your method of incubation. We utilize the dry hatching method.
We sell hatching eggs and chicks in single quantities so that you can purchase the exact quantity you would like. We do not have the quantity of each breed that allow us to produce untold dozens of each breed’s eggs every day. We want to reach the backyard owner who may only want to experience a breed or replaced a few chickens.
We open our waiting list in December for the upcoming year which allows you to pre-order your eggs for the upcoming season. You will be notified before your order ships to ensure you will be available to receive your eggs.
Due to the nature of the product we are unable to accept returns. We are not able to guarantee your hatch rate. Your hatch rate could be zero or all the eggs, including the “just in case” extra, could hatch. If you want a guaranteed number of chicks delivered to your door you will need to order chicks through our website. You assume the risk of shipped eggs.
Delayed Shipments
Eggs are shipped across multiple states and transferred from truck to truck. Sometimes it isn’t even the right truck. This is why we strongly encourage you to select the fastest shipping option available. The postal service can take longer than expected and just because the package is late does not mean your eggs won’t hatch. We will work with you to file a claim for any delayed shipments but are unable to offer refunds for delayed shipments.
Damaged ShipmentsWe include additional eggs when possible to account for the possibility of damage during shipping. If you order 6 eggs it means you are paying for SIX but we do included some extra when available. If your eggs arrive and there are 7 eggs in the box but one is cracked then you have received what you ordered. If three in the order are cracked we will send a replacement for just the broken eggs or a refund for the broken eggs, our choice. We will only do this one time and you will need to submit pictures of the box and eggs within 48 hours of delivery. Take a picture of the box before you open it.
UPS/USPS include automatic liability for loss up to $100 at no additional charge. The package must actually be lost in order for it to be covered with USPS. We have had them cover crushed packages before but photos were required.
You can buy 3rd party insurance for an additional fee. The program covers loss, damage, general average loss, and more. Insurance rates very depending on package value and service used.
Our credit card processor doesn’t refund the processing fee when a refund is processed. We will deduct the 3% fee from cancelled orders.
