Experienced Hatchers Only! Dark eggs are harder to hatch use the suggested incubating instructions available on our home page.
If the item is in stock you will receive exactly what it pictured. If preorders are turned on you will receive something similar to what is pictured. An assortment of my darkest browns, darker olive and eggs from our "bloomy" pens which could be olive or brown with blooms.
Dark brown eggs with blooms look purple while light brown eggs with blooms look pink. We hatched our bloomy eggs and put them in one pen under roosters that hatched from dark or bloomy eggs. While some of the eggs you receive may not have a bloom they are from that line. We will limit these eggs without a strong visible bloom to 1 per order. This is not a cross pen these blooms come from Black Copper Marans. Keep in mind their eggs do lighten over time and while it looked like the picture with the color card at the end of March it will lighten until we get to molt. You will receive eggs from that pen.
Olive eggs come from 5 generations of olive egger crossing. We will try not to send more than one of each generation to keep it assorted. Any hens that hatch from these olive eggs will lay a shade darker then the egg your receive. They also have a 50/50 chance of laying a darker olive or darker brown egg.
Olive Eggers have hybrid vigor and do lay more often than our Black Copper Marans so your order will lean more toward olive.
We are not able to do custom orders and can't send you all bloomy eggs. There is no guarantee that your hens will lay dark eggs, especially if it is a bloomy egg, you are taking a chance. Also note, the bloom doesn't always show up on the first egg it can take months for it to show up. Genetics are not guaranteed.
Some of the eggs you receive will be REALLY DARK and therefor harder to hatch. If you have never hatched eggs please start with our light egg collection. If you are ready to move forward with dark eggs please read up on dry hatching. We do not recommend hatching lighter eggs like blue or tan with dark eggs since darker eggs usually need 1-2 days more time to hatch.
You will receive exactly what is pictured. Make sure you have experience hatching dark eggs or have gotten the free download from our home page.
You are buying 5 eggs and receiving 1 additional egg in the event of damage during transit. There is no guarantee that the hens that hatch from these eggs will produce a bloom.
We feed our girls only the best chemical free certified organic feed.
Dark & Bloomy Hatching Eggs
Shipping on Hatching Eggs
We ship hatching eggs Monday through Wednesday, depending on when the hens lay and the weather. We strive to ship within 24 hours of the egg being laid. Eggs that are older than 48 hours go in the incubator, to the farmers market or the food bank. We don’t have the ability to store and keep eggs.
Hatching Eggs are shipped via UPS unless directed otherwise. The option is available for expedited at an additional charge. UPS does not have x-ray equipment so there is no possibility your eggs will be exposed during transit.
It is highly advised that west coast customers take the optional upgrade to UPS 2-Day Shipping, especially during the high heat summer months.
They have arrived!
Once your eggs arrive let them “rest” inside in a carton with the pointy end down largest end up. Do not put cold eggs into an incubator they will crack.Eggs ship from Alabama, where it is extremely humid, eggs are collected throughout the day and transfered to a climate controlled room (with 40% relative humidity) where they are either packed and shipped or set to hatch. Even with this limited time before leaving it is possible your eggs will have a smaller air cell than eggs produced in more arid climates. You should adjust your incubating settings accordingly for your method of incubation. We utilize the dry hatching method.
